The First Thing I Did...

When Oz came to our school the first thing I did when I got home was told my mom about how she came and how pretty the painting that she made was. I asked my mom to take me to her art show because I really wanted to pick out my colors.  COOL !!

Fluttering and Flitting

I met Brooke at the opening of her show in Chandler and was very impressed with the vivid abstract rich paintings. I picked my colors from a moment in time when I looked out my upstairs window up on Braintree Hill and say a startling flash of bright red among the vivid and varied greens of the spring foliage. It was a male rose-breasted grosbeak fluttering and flitting in the trees. I am daily inspired by the changing scenes of nature here in Vermont. I love the way images emerge from Brooke’s paintings. Fantastic!!

Succeeding Greatly

While doing a story about the art scene for the Vail Daily, I discovered Brooke.  Her work embodies originality with its brilliant colors and textures.  She was really helpful during the interview, and I hope she succeeds greatly at what she is doing.

26 Million Dollars

Malie has had her own art show at 4 years old! When asked why she picked out her colors, she said, "They are worth 26 million dollars."
I smiled.
I continued to talk to Mom, as you can see in the background...as Malie also continued something of her own: more photographs!

The Colors of My Life

The colors I have chosen from the selection given means to me my life, meaning my friends. Also resembling what they mean to me. Love, the purest love imaginable. And the stress that comes with all of them and to let them go as they please. Forgiveness and regret but thanks and respect as well. That is what my colors mean to me.

Every Minute of Your Life Counts

The colors I chose mean life to me I believe that every minute of your life counts. And you should be grateful for everything that happens ,
To you even breaking your arm it ALL happens for reason.

Inspiration of Energy

I met Brooke and she was an inspiration of energy and positive attitude. She was so unpretentious and sweet. I “did” my colors for her. I was at the show as an artist. Picking my colors was a new experience and art in general to me means the ability to let go of restrictions and be who you really are without judgement.

Colors Reflect Change

I’m comfortable with earth colors which are calming to me, but I tried to break out of my familiar role to throw in blue and red, Red especially is a “break-out” color to me. In some ways these color choices reflect the change that I am going through now. I hope to add more and more bold colors as I grow.

What Do My Colors Say About Me?

So I have been sitting in the booth all day looking at all of Brooke's Work, thinking to myself what are my colors and what do they say about me. Well the colors I ended up picking are all about the growth I have experienced in the past year of my life. I have done a lot of growing up because I moved out of state for school. The Colors also represent the many new and exciting changes that re still to come in my future. As I look to the future these are the colors I would like to see in many important events in my life (Wedding, Children, my first house) I also made sure I included the pearl color to represent my faith. I am a strong in my faith and I like to keep my life centered around Christ.

Another Small World Story

I was in Vergennes, Vermont last weekend attending a very close friends wedding. Few evenings in a row members of the wedding party spent time socializing at the local watering hole, Bar Antidote. I noticed the artwork, looked at the artists schedule and saw that she would be in my hometown just a few days after I flew back to Colorado. And now here I am at the Park Meadows Art Festival a week later saying hello.

Part of the Community

The colors drew us in, but Brooke sucked us in. We loved her enthusiasm and her commitment to community, art and connections. She has an infectious attitude and the art world needs more committed artists like her. We are looking forward to taking a trip up to her studio and seeking her at work. Thanks for making us a part of the “community”!

Express Art Everywhere

I came to the art show today basically because I love art and I think that when people do art; any kind of art, it’s amazing and inspires so many people. I think that is art is so amazing and so beautiful that it should be expressed everywhere. The art show really made my day. Thank you.

To the Woods

Off in a flash to Denver, Littleton actually. These have been my first steps in Colorado, until now they have been 98% on asphalt at the festival, but off to Vail we go tomorrow and to the woods. Saturday was what one might call a hazy day, not due to the weather, but from sleeping one and a half hours before spending 14 hours at the festival. We’re off to Beaver Creek next weekend for the BIG show, see you there!

Woke Up to a Phone Call

I woke up this morning to a phone call, which said you are coming to my studio with me. Of course I
was half asleep and was like whatever. Little did I know that Oz was going to put me through a project this early in the afternoon. But then she gave me a beer and everything was all better. For those of you that don’t know me, I LOVE MY BEER. All in all this whole experience was different and actually kind of fun.

Overtaken by Rasberry Bushes

It’s raining and thundering outside, which might be my favorite weather. Brooke’s studio feels warm and safe, like a cocoon. I could hole up in here for a while and recharge my soul. The steps on the side of the school are crooked and being overtaken by rasberry bushes. I looked for ripe berries with each step I took, but it wasn’t until the last step that I found a single, tiny, perfectly ripe berry. It made me happy.

The Color of Snow

I hate having my picture taken but if I take it myself I have a little more control over what side of myself I show. And when picking out my colors I was trying to define the color of snow so I went with the color of snow in the tree which is where I find my peace.
